06/25/2014 - HERSHEY, Pa. – The Hershey Bears announced today that the club has signed defenseman Garrett Haar to an American Hockey League contract for the 2014-2015 season.  The announcement was made by Bears President/GM Doug Yingst.
Haar, 20, appeared in 61 games on the blue line for the WHL’s Portland Winterhawks in 2013-2014.  He recorded 45 points (seven goals, 38 assists), a point total which ranked eighth on the squad and second among defensemen.  Haar went on to add three assists in all 21 games of the Winterhawks’ WHL playoff run this past spring.
The 5-11, 194-pound native of Huntington Beach, California played two seasons of collegiate hockey at Western Michigan University (CCHA) from 2011-2013, totaling 17 points (four goals, 13 assists).  Haar, named to the CCHA All-Rookie Team in 2011-2012, also helped the Broncos capture the 2012 CCHA championship.
Haar participated in the Washington Capitals’ summer development camp held last July in Arlington, Virginia.  He was selected by Washington in the seventh round (207th overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.
