CAPITALS ACQUIRE DEFENSEMAN CHAY GENOWAY FROM MINNESOTA

HERSHEY, Pa.– The HERSHEY BEARS announced today that the organization has acquired defenseman Chay Genoway from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for a conditional seventh-round selection in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. The announcement was made by BEARS President/GM Doug Yingst.Genoway, 26, will report to HERSHEY after spending the past two seasons with the Minnesota organization. Genoway appeared in 53 games with Houston this season, ranking second among Aeros defensemen with 19 points (four goals, 15 assists). He has also posted a plus-11 efficiency rating, a mark which led his teammates on the blue line.
In his rookie season of 2011-12, the 5-9, 177-pound native of Morden, MB led Aeros defensemen with 36 points (seven goals, 29 assists). Genoway also recorded one assist in his NHL debut against the Phoenix Coyotes on April 7, 2011.
Genoway played four years of collegiate hockey at the University of North Dakota (WCHA). His senior season of 2011 was highlighted by leading his team with 31 assists, and helping the Fighting Sioux to the NCAA Frozen Four. He served as North Dakota’s captain his junior and senior seasons and was named a First Team All-WCHA in 2011 and 2009.
In 168 career games with the Fighting Sioux, Genoway totaled 127 points (26 goals, 101 assists).
The HERSHEY BEARS are home for a pair of games this Saturday, March 16 at 7:00 PM against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers and on Sunday, March 17 at 5:00 PM against the Adirondack Phantoms.
