June 2, 2015

HERSHEY, Pa. – The Hershey Bears Hockey Club announced today that the organization has signed forward Garrett Mitchell to a two-year contract.  The announcement was made by Bears president/general manager Doug Yingst.

While serving as alternate captain for a second consecutive season, the 23-year-old Mitchell picked up eight points (four goals, four assists) and 121 penalty minutes in 64 regular-season games with Hershey.  He added a goal and two assists in 10 Calder Cup playoff contests.

Currently the longest-tenured player on Hershey’s roster, Mitchell has played his entire career in Chocolatetown, appearing in 224 regular-season contests.  He has posted a total of 55 points (25 goals, 30 assists) over parts of six seasons, including a career-best 30 (15 goals, 15 assists) in 2012-13.

Prior to turning pro, the 5-11, 196-pound native of Regina, Saskatchewan amassed 112 points (51 goals, 61 assists) in 264 games with his hometown Regina Pats (WHL).  Mitchell served as team captain in the 2010-11 campaign.

Mitchell was originally selected by the Washington Capitals in the sixth round (175th overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
