The first period ended with a 2-1 score in favor of the Providence Bruins. At the 12:12 mark, the Bruins were awarded their first goal via video replay. It was determined an Alexander Khokhlachev shot crossed the goal line prior to the next getting knocked off behind Philipp Grubauer.

Garrett Mitchell tied the game on his second goal of the season at 13:49 on a blast from the point. But the tied hockey game did not last a single minute before Ben Sexton gave his club their second lead when he converted on an odd-man rush. Shots after 20 minutes were 12-8 Hershey.

The smell of chocolate heating up filled the Giant Center air in the middle frame, as the Bears stormed back to score three unanswered. First, Joel Broda tied the game 3:30 in on a snapshot to the roof of the net behind Malcolm Subban.

At the 7:05 mark, Chris Brown tallied in similar fashion to give the Bears their first lead of the night. Dustin Gazley extended the lead to two goals after burying a cross-ice feed from Kris Newbury with 3:20 to go.

Providence stopped the bleeding in the final minute of the stanza with Khokhlachev's second goal of the night.

The Bruins tied it in the third period, sending the game to sudden-death overtime. Jim O'Brien was the hero in 4-on-4 with a breakaway goal to send the fans home happy, and put Hershey in the win column.
