BEARS RECALL JOSH BRITTAIN FROM READING ROYALS

March 8, 2014

HERSHEY, Pa. – The Hershey Bears announced today that the club has recalled forward Josh Brittain from the ECHL’s Reading Royals. The announcement was made by Bears President/GM Doug Yingst.

Brittain, 24, was loaned to Reading after appearing in 19 games with the Bears. With Hershey he contributed three goals, one assist and a plus-three rating.

Since joining the Royals on January 20, the 6-5, 230-pound native of Milton, Ontario has posted 21 points (11 goals, 10 assists), a plus-seven rating and eight penalty minutes in 21 contests. He has tallied Reading’s last three game-winning goals, and has potted a team-leading six on the season. Brittain departs Reading with six points (three goals, three assists) in a five-game streak.

Brittain split the 2012-13 campaign between the ECHL’s Fort Wayne Komets and the AHL’s Norfolk Admirals. In just 31 games with Fort Wayne, Brittain recorded 27 points (13 goals, 14 assists) and ranked sixth on the team in goal scoring. His plus-10 efficiency rating also stood up as the squad’s best at the end of the season. In 43 games with the Admirals, Brittain netted 19 points (11 goals, eight assists) while tying for second on the team in game-winning goals (three).

Brittain has played in a total of 113 American Hockey League games with Syracuse, Norfolk and Hershey, totaling 30 points (16 goals, 14 assists).

Prior to turning pro, Brittain played four years of junior hockey with the OHL’s Kingston Frontenacs, Barrie Colts and Plymouth Whalers, amassing 152 points (80 goals, 72 assists) in 258 games. He also won the gold medal with Team Canada at the 2008 Under-18 World Championship. Brittain was originally selected by the Anaheim Ducks in the third round (71st overall) in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.

The Bears visit the Norfolk Admirals tonight at 7:15 PM. The game will again be simulcast on the Bears Radio Network and on ABC-27’s RTV channel 27.2, Comcast 246, Verizon Fios 461, Blue Ridge 152 and Kuhn 67 in Central Pennsylvania.
