PHANTOMS HALT BEARS' WIN STREAK

February 1, 2014

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Tye McGinn tallied three points and goaltender Cal Heeter stopped 29 shots, helping the Adirondack Phantoms halt the Hershey Bears’ win streak at six games in a 4-1 final on Saturday afternoon at Wells Fargo Center.

Tyler Brown opened the scoring 2:56 into the contest, collecting a pass from Marc-Andre Bourdon and firing a snap shot from the left circle over the glove of Bears netminder Philipp Grubauer.

McGinn started off his solid afternoon by finishing off a nice passing play started by Jason Akeson. Akeson sent a pass from the left boards all the way through to Kris Newbury, who hurried a pass in front that McGinn finished by tipping the puck past Grubauer at 7:00.

The Bears broke through Heeter at 17:53. A slowly-developing play in the offensive zone allowed Ryan Potulny to move the puck toward the slot, where Matt Watkins was stationed. Watkins whirled around with a backhand shot that slid through Heeter’s pads, cutting the Phantoms’ lead to 2-1.

Neither team scored in the second period. The Phantoms held their lead by virtue of killing off three consecutive Hershey power plays in the middle frame.

Ben Holmstrom then made it 3-1 at 5:29 of the third, following up the rebound of a McGinn shot and slipping it past Grubauer.

Akeson finished off the scoring by capitalizing on a Hershey turnover in the Bears’ defensive zone. The forward spun around in the left circle, and had time to pick the upper-right corner with a snap shot at 8:35.

Grubauer dropped to 6-5-1, making 27 saves on the afternoon. Heeter evened his record at 15-15-0.

The Bears return home tomorrow, February 2 for a special 2:00 PM matchup against the Norfolk Admirals, in the annual Super Bowl Sunday game. Tickets for this and all remaining home games are available by calling (717) 508-BEAR, by stopping into the GIANT Center box office or by visiting TicketMaster.com.
