MICHAEL LATTA, DMITRY ORLOV RECALLED BY CAPITALS

October 30, 2013

HERSHEY, Pa. – The Hershey Bears announced today that center Michael Latta and defenseman Dmitry Orlov have been recalled by the Washington Capitals.  The announcement was made by Bears President/GM Doug Yingst.

Latta, 22, began his season by scoring a shorthanded goal and shorthanded assist in the Bears’ home opener on October 5 against the Adirondack Phantoms.  He then appeared in two games with the Capitals following his first recall of the season on October 8.

The 6-0, 213-pound native of St. Clements, Ontario has since tallied points in the Bears’ last two games.  He ranks second on the team with a total of four points (two goals, two assists), is tied for second in plus-minus efficiency (plus-three), and leads in penalty minutes (25).

Latta was acquired by the Capitals from the Nashville Predators in exchange for forward Filip Forsberg on April 3, 2013.  He was originally selected by Nashville in the third round (72nd overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

Orlov, 22, has climbed to the top of the Bears’ scoring leaderboard, helped by a career-best four-point game (one goal, three assists) and plus-three rating on October 19 at St. John’s.  He has a total of six points (one goal, five assists) on his current three-game point streak.

In parts of four seasons in Hershey, the 6-0, 210-pound native of Novokuznetsk, Russia has accumulated 41 points (10 goals, 31 assists) and 44 penalty minutes in 69 regular-season games.  Orlov has also appeared in 65 games with Washington, posting 20 points (three goals, 17 assists), 18 penalty minutes and a plus-six efficiency rating.

Orlov won the gold medal with his native Russia at the 2011 World Junior Championships, and was originally selected by Washington in the second round (55th overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

The Bears head to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton to begin a home-and-home set with the Penguins on Friday, November 1 at 7:05 PM.  The Bears then host the Penguins on Saturday, November 2 for a 7:00 PM faceoff.

Saturday is a Dietz and Watson Dollar Dog Night, on which fans can purchase hot dogs for just $1 at select concession stands.  Individual tickets for this and all Hershey Bears home games are on sale at the GIANT Center box office, by calling (717) 508-BEAR or by visiting TicketMaster.com on the internet.
