BEARS INVITE FANS TO PINK THE RINK ON SUNDAY

November 21, 2012

HERSHEY, Pa. – The HERSHEY BEARS announced today that the club, in conjunction with Mixed Up Productions and Leslie Gilbert Photography, will all partner to “Pink the Rink” on Sunday, November 25 for a joint effort to raise funds to support the American Cancer Society.  The announcement was made by BEARS President/GM Doug Yingst.

The BEARS are involved in numerous charitable initiatives both during and around each hockey season, and are excited to extend fans the opportunity to help turn GIANT Center pink for Sunday’s 5:00 PM game against the Toronto Marlies.

To kick off the evening, the Derry Township Police Department will be “locking up” team mascot Coco outside GIANT Center from 3:00 to 4:00 PM.  Coco will be collecting change in order to be “bailed out.”  Once he is free, Leslie Gilbert Photography will give fans of all ages the opportunity to have their photo taken with Coco from 4:00 to 5:00 PM outside section 117 at GIANT Center.

Mixed Up Productions will have special Pink the Rink t-shirts for sale, also outside section 117.  A few lucky fans will take home a shirt autographed by a BEARS player.  Fans are encouraged to wear their shirts during the game to fully “pink” GIANT Center.

"We wanted to do something out of the ordinary to help our community and to show those diagnosed that we are here to support them,” said Mike Miller, owner of Mixed Up Productions. “Breast cancer is a serious disease for which we need to find a cure, and we hope an event like Pink the Rink will help us get a little closer to that cure."

During the game, the HERSHEY BEARS wives and girlfriends will be selling special pink megaphones autographed by the players.  A silent auction will take place at the wives and girlfriends table behind section 119, for the pink sticks that the BEARS will use during pre-game warm-ups and an autographed “Pink the Rink” team photo.

The HERSHEY Sports store will also be featuring limited edition HERSHEY BEARS breast cancer awareness t-shirts and pucks.

The evening will finish with a live on-ice auction for the special Breast Cancer Awareness jerseys to be worn by the players, with a portion of the proceeds from the auction going to the American Cancer Society.

The American Cancer Society is an organization that combines an unyielding passion with nearly a century of experience to save lives and end cancer for good.  To learn more or to seek help, call 1-800-227-2345 any time or visit www.cancer.org.

The BEARS face off against the Toronto Marlies at 5:00 PM on Sunday.  The first 3,000 fans will receive a gift card to the Turkey Hill Experience.  Turkey Hill Dairy will also be at GIANT Center on Sunday offering fans samples of ice cream.  Sunday is also a Dietz & Watson Dollar Dog Night, and fans may purchase hot dogs for $1 at various concession locations.

Tickets for this game and all HERSHEY BEARS home games are on sale now at the GIANT Center box office, by calling (717) 508-BEAR, or online at TicketMaster.com.
