BEARS NEED A WIN MONDAY IN GAME 3 TO GET BACK IN SERIES

June 7, 2010

In a season that has been among the most historic in American Hockey League history, the BEARS are now forced to write another entry in the record book if they are to win the 2010 Calder Cup. Game 3 of the Calder Cup Finals is Monday night at Cedar Park Center, just outside of Austin, Texas. Faceoff is at 8:30 p.m. eastern. No team in AHL history has ever won a Cup after losing Game 1 and Game 2 of the best-of-seven series at home, but that’s the spot the BEARS are in heading into Monday’s Game 3. Texas picked up the game-winning goal from former BEARS forward Travis Morin in the final minute of regulation Saturday night, giving the Stars a 4-3 win in regulation and a two games to none lead in the series. HERSHEY rallied three times in the game from one goal deficits, but never led in the game. Suddenly, the team that had lost just once dating back to November 30 lost two games at home in a span of just over 48 hours. The task for HERSHEY in Texas is clear. The BEARS must win two games out of the potential three at Cedar Park Center this week, or the Stars will win the Calder Cup in the club’s inaugural season. Two wins would force the series back to Giant Center for Game 6 next Monday, with the Chocolate and White still needing two more home wins to rally and become the first team since 1991 to win back-to-back Calder Cup titles. Game 3 can be seen at 8:30 p.m. on ABC-27’s digital channel 27.2, which can be seen also on Comcast channel 246 and Verizon channel 461. CSN Washington will also carry the game for fans in Maryland, D.C. and Virginia live, making the game available for fans with DirectTV as well via that medium. Game 3 can be heard via the BEARS Radio Network (Soft Rock 100.1 WQIC and www.Sportsjuice.com) beginning at 8:10 p.m. John Walton and ABC-27’s Gregg Mace have the call from Cedar Park Center.
