GAME 2 SET FOR SATURDAY NIGHT, BEARS UP 1-0 IN THE SERIES

The BEARS look to take a two games to none lead in the 2010 Eastern Conference Finals Saturday night, hosting the Manchester Monarchs at 7:00 p.m. Sean Collins scored 16 seconds into Game 1 on the first shot on goal in the series by either team, as the BEARS took a 4-2 win Wednesday night. Andrew Gordon scored his 10th goal of the postseason in the first period on an Alexandre Giroux rebound. Steve Pinizzotto, who was named the game’s number one star, and Karl Alzner also scored goals in the Game 1 victory. Goaltender Michal Neuvirth earned his seventh straight victory to start the 2010 Calder Cup playoffs, stopping 24 of 26 shots. Manchester goalie Jonathan Bernier suffered the loss in goal for the visitors, making 24 saves on the 28 shots that came his way. Andrej Loktionov scored his first goal of the playoffs in the third period of Game 1 for the Monarchs, in front of a crowd of 7,718. Around the Calder Cup playoffs, the Hamilton Bulldogs defeated the Texas Stars 3-2 in overtime on Friday night at Copps Coliseum. The Bulldogs now lead the Stars 1-0 in the Western Conference Finals. Brock Trotter had two goals including the overtime winner. The Bulldogs opened the game’s scoring at 3:22 of the first period while on the power play. Mike Glumac received the puck from Andre Benoit before firing a shot on net. Texas starting goaltender Matt Climie could not control the rebound, which David Desharnais scooped up and deposited in the back of the net.The Stars tied the game with a power-play marker of their own at 11:01 of the first frame. Landon Wilson dished a pass to Jamie Benn, who was positioned at the right faceoff dot. Benn snapped a shot that slid between the legs of Hamilton starting goaltender Curtis Sanford. Brock Trotter gave the ‘Dogs a 2-1 lead at 15:23 of the opening stanza. Aaron Palushaj sent a pass to Desharnais, who was stationed in the slot. Desharnais released a shot on net that Trotter tipped past Climie and into the net. Benn scored his second goal of the game at 18:15 of the second stanza while on the power play. Dan Jancevski fed a pass across the ice to Benn, who was located at the right faceoff circle. Benn one-timed a shot past the glove of Sanford and into the back of the net. Trotter scored his second goal of the game 14 seconds into overtime to win the game for the Bulldogs. Desharnais sent a shot to the net that was stopped by Climie. The goaltender could not control the rebound, which bounced onto the stick of Trotter, who was stationed at the left side of the net. Trotter tapped the puck past Climie and into the net to win the game.
