BEARS LOOK FOR ANOTHER WIN IN GAME 3 TUESDAY NIGHT

April 27, 2010

Leading the 2010 East Division Finals two games to none, the BEARS look to take a commanding 3-0 lead Tuesday night, taking on the Albany River Rats at Times Union Center. Faceoff is at 7:00 p.m. For the fourth time this playoff year, the BEARS won a game when trailing in the third period on Sunday. Alexandre Giroux and Andrew Gordon each scored two goals to continue their torrid lamp-lighting pace, and goaltender Michal Neuvirth earned his fifth win this postseason without defeat. HERSHEY rallied to defeat the River Rats in Game 2 of the series, after winning Game 1 in overtime 4-3 on Saturday night. Giroux and Gordon each have eight goals in seven playoff games played, running away with the Calder Cup scoring race. HERSHEY played without defensemen Greg Amadio (upper body injury) and Sean Collins (illness), playing Dylan Yeo and Johann Kroll for the first time this playoff year. Yeo, who played briefly with the BEARS during the regular season, spent the vast majority of his campaign in 2009-10 with South Carolina (ECHL). Kroll, who skated with the BEARS in two games during the 2008-09 season, split time this year between the AHL and ECHL. After back-to-back losses to open the series, pressure is mounting on Albany to win Tuesday’s Game 3. Defenseman Jamie McBain, who scored four goals to lead the Rats to a four-game sweep of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, has just one assist in two games so far in the division finals. Goaltender Justin Peters has seen his goals against average rise from 2.25 to 2.92 since the series began, suffering two defeats along the way. Peters has a 4.14 goals against in two playoff games against HERSHEY, with a saves percentage of 88.0. Only Drayson Bowman (2-1-3), Jerome Samson (2-1-3) and Zac Dalpe (1-2-3) have collected more than one point thus far in the best-of-seven series against the Chocolate and White. There is still one first round division semi-final to be decided on Tuesday night, with the Abbotsford Heat taking on the Rochester Americans at Blue Cross Arena. Game 7 of that North Division Semi-Final will decide who will play the Hamilton Bulldogs in the North Division Finals starting Thursday night at Copps Coliseum. The Chicago Wolves needed seven games themselves, but advanced Monday night with a 2-1 win over the Milwaukee Admirals. The Wolves now face the Texas Stars in the West Division Finals. Worcester looks to take a two games to none lead in the Atlantic Division Finals on Wednesday, hosting the Manchester Monarchs. Tuesday’s game can be heard via the BEARS Radio Network (100.1 FM and www.Sportsjuice.com) beginning at 6:40 p.m. John Walton has the call of the game from New York’s Capital District.
