AMERKS, BEHIND A FORMER BEAR, WIN 3-1 FRIDAY NIGHT

April 2, 2010

The BEARS were denied a shot at AHL history Friday, falling to the Rochester Americans 3-1 in western New York. In a steamy Blue Cross Arena outside, with temperatures in the mid 80’s outside, the two teams battled to a scoreless draw after one. Both teams mustered just five shots at each other’s goaltender, with HERSHEY’S Braden Holtby and Rochester’s Tyler Plante each making five saves. Former BEARS winger Graham Mink would score two second period goals, lifting the Amerks to a 2-0 lead after two. HERSHEY’S only highlight would be late in the third period when Francois Bouchard scored his 20th of the season at 16:18. He became the seventh BEARS player this season to score 20 or more. Mike York would add an empty net goal to seal the win in the closing seconds. HERSHEY will attempt Saturday to break the all-time AHL single-season wins record with a home game against the Syracuse Crunch. Face-off is at 7:00 p.m. BEARS Radio Network Three Stars of the game: 1. Graham Mink (Two goals against his former team) 2. Tyler Plante (Big saves in earning his 11th win) 3. Francois Bouchard (Scores 20th goal) Notes: Michal Neuvirth is expected to return to the lineup Saturday when the BEARS take on Syracuse. The BEARS welcome the Crunch to town Saturday at 7:00 p.m., and the Norfolk Admirals Sunday at 6:00 p.m. Tickets are on sale at the Giant Center box office, or by calling (717) 534-3911. Patrick Wellar, Cody Eakin, Zach Miskovic and Anton Gustafsson were all healthy scratches Friday. Chris Bourque is nursing a lower body injury, and is listed as day-to-day. Washington reassigned Mathieu Perreault to HERSHEY on Friday. He’s expected to be back in the lineup Saturday night at Giant Center.
