SHARKS SINK TEETH INTO BEARS SUNDAY 6-2

March 14, 2010

The BEARS lost a chance to close out an East Division championship Sunday, falling to the Worcester Sharks 6-2 in a game at the DCU Center. Worcester picked up two first period goals Sunday, starting with Derek Joslin’s third goal of the season at 8:40. The Sharks picked up a John McCarthy goal at 10:55 to take a 2-0 lead into first intermission. More of the same awaited the Chocolate and White in the second, starting with a Mike Moore penalty shot goal at 2:47 to lift Worcester to a 3-0 lead. Brandon Mashinter picked up his 18th goal of the season midway through the second period at 9:53 to add to Worcester’s lead, and Andrew Desjardins scored on a left circle shot to run the score out to 5-0 in the second. The Sharks took that 5-0 lead into the final period, and added to the lead when Desjardins scored his second of the game and 16th of the season at 11:34. HERSHEY gained a measure of respectability late when Michael Dubuc and Chris Bourque scored against Worcester goaltender Alex Stalock. Stalock won his league-leading 35th game of the season, and the BEARS fell to defeat for the second time in three games on a road trip through New England. BEARS Radio Network Three Stars of the game: 1. Andrew Desjardins (Two goals for Worcester) 2. Alex Stalock (35th win of the year in net for Sharks) 3. John McCarthy (Goal, assist, plus 4) Notes: HERSHEY heads to Binghamton to wrap up the current four-game road trip Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. Defenseman Dylan Yeo missed the game due to injury after leaving Saturday’s game in Springfield in the second period. Boyd Kane missed the game due to illness. Holtby came on in relief of Neuvirth in the second period after Worcester’s fifth goal. The BEARS return home Friday to face the Albany River Rats at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are available at the Giant Center box office, or by calling (717) 534-3911.
