23 WINS IN A ROW AT HOME: BEARS OVER PHANTOMS 4-2

March 7, 2010

BEARS BATTLE TO 4-2 WIN OVER ADIRONDACK Hershey Reaches 100-Point Plateau in 23rd Straight Home Win By Jess Mikula After a slow start, the BEARS scored three unanswered goals in the third period to defeat the visiting Adirondack Phantoms 4-2 in come-from-behind fashion Sunday. In the victory, HERSHEY earned its 23rd consecutive win on home ice and improved to 100 points on the season. Boyd Kane struck first for the BEARS, potting his 20th of the season on a feed from Chris Bourque in the slot at 16:10, with the secondary assist to Karl Alzner. Andreas Nodl knotted the score at one goal apiece late in the period, breaking into the HERSHEY zone with Alzner in pursuit. Logan Stephenson and Patrick Maroon tallied the assists on Nodl’s goal at 18:24. The score was deadlocked at 1-1 after 20 minutes. Rob Bellamy gave the Phantoms the go-ahead goal in the second period, as BEARS netminder Michal Neuvirth turned the puck over behind the net and bobbled the ensuing shot at 6:11. The Chocolate and White carried a one-goal deficit to the dressing room after two. With an extended power play to start the third stanza, Zach Miskovic launched a screamer from the blueline to give the BEARS the equalizer at 1:55. Francois Bouchard and Mathieu Perreault registered the assists on Miskovic’s third of the year. Keith Aucoin reclaimed the lead for HERSHEY with a power play goal at 6:25. With Kane screening Phantoms backstop Johan Backlund, Aucoin fired a wrister from the left circle for his 31st of the season, assisted by Bourque and Alexandre Giroux. Kane added an empty net marker from Bryan Helmer and Andrew Joudrey at 19:40 to clinch the win. With the primary assist, Helmer recorded his 387th career helper to surpass Steve Kraftcheck and break the AHL record for most assists by a defenseman. Neuvirth earned his 13th win in net this season, stopping 20 of 22 shots. The BEARS struck three times on five man advantage chances and blanked Adirondack on each of its three tries.
