LOOKING TO TAME THE TIGERS, PART TWO

March 1, 2010

HERSHEY hits the road Tuesday to take on the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at the Arena at Harbor Yard. Face-off is slated for 7:00 p.m. The BEARS are zeroing in on a 2010 Calder Cup playoff spot heading into Tuesday’s game. HERSHEY’S magic number to clinch the first spot of 16 in the 2010 Calder Cup playoffs is down to eight. Any combination of points earned by HERSHEY or not collected by the Providence Bruins (due to the potential Atlantic Division crossover) will officially clinch a seat at the table for the postseason. HERSHEY won its 46th game in 60 tries Sunday with a 2-1 shootout win at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Washington assigned goaltender Michal Neuvirth on Monday off the NHL roster. Neuvirth is available to play Tuesday for HERSHEY in Bridgeport. The Capitals also recalled goaltender Semyon Varlamov, left wing Quintin Laing and defenseman Tyler Sloan to D.C. on Monday. Laing and Sloan had been in HERSHEY for the weekend on a conditioning assignment. The two-game season series between the BEARS and Tigers began this past Saturday with a HERSHEY 9-2 win at Giant Center. The Chocolate and White scored nine goals in the first two periods to cruise to the lopsided win. Tuesday’s game is the only time this season that Mark French’s team will visit southern Connecticut in 2009-10. Tuesday’s game can be heard via the BEARS Radio Network (100.1 FM and www.Sportsjuice.com) beginning at 6:40 p.m. John Walton has the call of the action from downtown Bridgeport.
