BEARS CHASE AHL HISTORY SUNDAY AT GIANT CENTER

February 21, 2010

In pursuit of an American Hockey League record Sunday for consecutive home wins, the BEARS play host to the Albany River Rats at 5:00 p.m. Goaltender Jason Bacashihua won his 12th game of the season, defeating his former team, the Lake Erie Monsters 4-1 Saturday night at Giant Center. Bacashihua, who played for Lake Erie last season, picked up the win as Andrew Joudrey picked up number two star honors with a goal and an assist. Oskar Osala, Jay Beagle and Andrew Gordon tallied single goals in the win, HERSHEY’S 42nd of the season. The BEARS will conclude the two-game season series with Lake Erie this Wednesday in Cleveland at Quicken Loans Arena. The BEARS tied an American Hockey League record Saturday night by winning its 19th consecutive home game. HERSHEY can set a new AHL standard by winning Sunday at home against the River Rats. Heading into Sunday’s game with Albany, the BEARS have not lost along HERSHEYPARK Drive since November 28, 2009. Albany goaltender Justin Peters, who allowed nine goals against HERSHEY in a game at Times Union Center back on January 15, was shelled again this past Wednesday. Peters was the losing goaltender against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in a 9-2 beating at Mohegan Sun Arena. Albany holds down second place in the East Division, but holds just a two-point lead over third place Norfolk. Jerome Samson (24-23-47) leads the River Rats in scoring. Peters has a 2.56 goals against average to go with a 20-15-2 record. The Rats are playing out its final season in New York’s Capital District. Albany will relocate to Charlotte, North Carolina to become the Charlotte Checkers next season. Nine other games round out the AHL docket on Sunday, including Adirondack and Hamilton playing at the Bell Centre in Montreal. Hartford, who has lost five of its last six games, plays at Bridgeport, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton is at Manchester, Portland plays at Rochester and San Antonio continues a road trip through the Midwest with a game in Chicago against the Wolves at Allstate Arena. Texas is on the road at Grand Rapids Sunday, Abbotsford continues an eastern swing with a game in Providence against the Bruins, Rockford is at Milwaukee and Houston plays in Peoria. Sunday’s game can be heard via the BEARS Radio Network (100.1 FM and www.Sportsjuice.com) beginning at 4:40 p.m. John Walton, Ed Coffey and Jim Jones have the call of the action.
