ALZNER, CARLSON AND NEUVIRTH ASSIGNED SUNDAY

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – February 14, 2010 Capitals Assign Karl Alzner, John Carlson and Michal Neuvirth to Hershey ARLINGTON, Va. – The Washington Capitals have assigned defensemen Karl Alzner and John Carlson and goaltender Michal Neuvirth to the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL), vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today. All three players have split this season between Washington and Hershey. Alzner, 21, has recorded five assists in 21 games with the Capitals this season. The Burnaby, British Columbia, native has played 30 games for Hershey this season and has one goal, six assists and only 10 penalty minutes. His +23 rating is tied for sixth in the AHL. Carlson, 20, has one assist in seven games for the Capitals. He leads Hershey defensemen and is tied for eighth among AHL defensemen with 31 points (three goals, 28 assists) in 39 games. His +30 plus/minus rating is third in the league, first among rookies. Neuvirth, 21, is 9-4-0 with Washington, posting a 2.75 goals-against average and a .914 save percentage. He is 11-5-0 for Hershey with a 1.92 goals-against average and a .932 save percentage. He was selected for the 2010 AHL All-Star Game but did not participate due to his recall to Washington. The Capitals, who boast the best record in the NHL at 41-13-8, do not have a game until March 3 as the NHL breaks for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.
