BEARS IN NORFOLK TO FACE RED-HOT ADMIRALS

February 3, 2010

Winners of a franchise record 16 straight home games and 20 of 21 overall, the BEARS kick off the month of February on Wednesday with a road game in Norfolk against the Admirals. Face-off at Norfolk Scope is 7:15 p.m. HERSHEY enters play Wednesday with just one loss since December 12, but that one setback came in Norfolk against the Admirals back on January 13. Mark Parrish scored for the Admirals with just seven seconds left in regulation to stun the Chocolate and White 4-3. Were it not for Parrish, the BEARS could be winners of 21 straight games heading into action Wednesday. The BEARS enter action on Wednesday with a season-high 19-point lead over second place Albany in the East Division standings. Both teams have 32 games to play. Norfolk holds down third place in the East after the club’s best road trip in seven years, winning six of seven in New England over a two-week span, and taking points in all seven games. The Admirals are 27 points behind the BEARS, but suddenly only eight points back of Albany for second. Adirondack sits in fourth place, 29 points back of the Chocolate and White. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton is 30 points of the pace in fifth, Syracuse is 32 back, and seventh place Binghamton is 34 points behind. Around the AHL on Wednesday, Albany is at home to face the Syracuse Crunch at Times Union Center at 7:00 p.m., while Rochester travels to Lake Erie to meet the Monsters in Cleveland. Hartford is on the road in Lowell Wednesday, the red hot Worcester Sharks are in Springfield to face the Falcons at Mass Mutual Center, and Adirondack is in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton to play the Penguins at Mohegan Sun Arena. Western Conference leading Hamilton is at home up against San Antonio at 7:30 p.m., Peoria is at Houston and Grand Rapids travels to Rockford to take on the Icehogs at Rockford Metro Center. Wednesday’s game can be heard via the BEARS Radio Network (100.1 FM and www.Sportsjuice.com) beginning at 6:55 p.m. John Walton has the play-by-play from downtown Norfolk.
