BEARS SLIP SIX BY B-SENS Hershey Captures 16th Straight Game on Home Ice By Jess Mikula After a quiet start, the BEARS found six goals from five different scorers Sunday night, as HERSHEY downed the visiting Binghamton Senators by a 6-1 margin. The win marked the eighth straight victory overall and 16th consecutive win on home ice for the BEARS. Kyle Wilson scored the only goal of the first period, as Boyd Kane and Oskar Osala set up his 19th of the season on a breakaway at 14:54. The BEARS out-shot the Senators by a 10-4 margin through the first 20 minutes and carried a 1-0 lead. The Chocolate and White added two more goals in the second period. Kane potted a goal of his own, his 19th of the year, with assists from Alexandre Giroux and Wilson at 6:23. Keith Aucoin added his 28th goal of the season just 37 seconds later, finishing a series of tic-tac-toe passes from Giroux and John Carlson. HERSHEY maintained a three-goal advantage after two. The BEARS erupted for three more goals in the third period. Giroux buried a backdoor try on Binghamton netminder Chris Holt for his 25th of the year at 1:26. Aucoin and John Carlson added the helpers. Andrew Joudrey was awarded a penalty shot after he was hooked down on a breakaway to the Senators net. Though his shot eluded Holt, the puck hit the left post and did not cross the goal line. Erik Condra spoiled the shutout for Michal Neuvirth, chipping the puck into the net off the right goal post at 6:00, assisted by Tomas Kudelka and Derek Smith. Giroux struck again with a power play tally at 15:33. Aucoin registered the lone assist, marking his 600th career point. Mathieu Perreault rounded out scoring for HERSHEY, finding the back of the net at 18:08, with an assist from Francois Bouchard. Neuvirth earned his 10th win in net with the BEARS this season, denying Binghamton on 32 of 33 chances. The Chocolate and White man advantage converted on one of six opportunities, while the penalty kill blanked the Senators on all three power play attempts. Bears Radio Network Three Stars of the Game: 1. Alexandre Giroux (two goals, two assists) 2. Keith Aucoin (one goal, two assists, 600th career point) 3. Kyle Wilson (one goal, one assist) Notes: Braden Holtby was recalled by Washington Sunday, while Neuvirth was assigned to HERSHEY. Neuvirth must be off the NHL roster for several days in order to be eligible to play in HERSHEY during the Olympic break. Giroux and Aucoin both show points in 16 consecutive games, while Kane has posted at least a point in eight straight. The BEARS will travel to Norfolk for a 7:15 p.m. match-up on Wednesday night before hosting the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins Saturday night. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., with tickets available at the Giant Center box office or by calling (717) 534-3911.
