CAPS ASSIGN JOHN CARLSON TO HERSHEY

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE â" January 18, 2010 Capitals Assign John Carlson to Hershey ARLINGTON, Va. â" The Washington Capitals have assigned defenseman John Carlson from the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL), vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today. Carlson will travel to Portland, Maine, where he will represent the Bears in the AHL All-Star Game on Tuesday. Carlson, 20, is a first-year pro who stands 6â™3â, 208 pounds. The Natick, Mass., native leads AHL defensemen in points per game (0.78). He ranks tied for 11th among AHL defensemen with 25 points (one goal, 24 assists) in 32 games. He is tied for 10th in the league (second among rookies) with a +17 rating. Carlson has played five games for the Capitals this season, averaging 14:34 of ice time with a +4 rating.
