STREAK ENDS AT 12, ADMIRALS WIN 4-3

January 13, 2010

Despite a furious third period comeback, the BEARS saw its franchise record 12-game winning streak end Wednesday night in Norfolk. The Admirals scored the game-winning goal with just seven seconds left to win 4-3 at Norfolk Scope. The BEARS, as they have many times during their franchise best winning streak, struck first. Kyle Wilson was able to tip a John Carlson shot from center point at 13:24. HERSHEY fired eight shots at Norfolk goaltender Dustin Tokarski, while Braden Holtby stopped all seven that came his way in the first 20 minutes. Norfolk would rally with two goals in the second to take a 2-1 lead. Justin Keller started the Admiral offense with his sixth goal of the year at 3:14, with Juraj Simek potting the go-ahead tally with a shot that went top-right corner past Holtby at 15:59. Just like this past Saturday’s game in Manitoba, the BEARS trailed on the road after two by a 2-1 count. HERSHEY posed a furious rally to open the third, with two quick goals. Patrick McNeill jumped up on the right side to score his third of the year at 4:21, and Alexandre Giroux then quickly tied it at 7:33. But Mark Parrish gave the Admirals a signature victory with a goal with seven seconds left. The winning streak for the Chocolate and White ends at 12 in a row. BEARS Radio Network Three Stars of the game: 1. Mark Parrish (Game-winner late) 2. Alexandre Giroux (Tied the game in the 3rd) 3. Patrick McNeill (Goal and assist in the third) Notes: The BEARS now head to Albany to conclude a four-game road trip Friday night at Times Union Center. Face-off Friday in New York’s Capital District is slated for 7:00 p.m. Defenseman Bryan Helmer and left wing Chris Bourque missed Wednesday’s game in Norfolk due to injury. Both are listed as day-to-day. The Chocolate and White will face Norfolk again on Wednesday, February 3 in Hampton Roads. HERSHEY returns home January 16 against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton at 7:00 p.m. Tickets available at the GIANT Center box office or by calling (717) 534-3911.
