HERSHEY returns home on Saturday night, winners of eight in a row. The Binghamton Senators will provide the opposition at 7:00 p.m. at
Giant Center.
Left wing Chris Bourque scored two goals including the game-winner early in the third period as HERSHEY defeated the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins 3-2 Friday at Wachovia Arena. The win for HERSHEY was its eighth in a row. Andrew Joudrey added a short-handed goal in the second period to round out the offense, as Braden Holtby collected his eighth win of the season in ten decisions. The BEARS have now won four of five meetings with the Penguins this season, with the next date set for January 16 at
Giant Center.
HERSHEY’S vaunted penalty kill ranks number one in the American Hockey League heading into Saturday’s game with Binghamton at 92.0 percent effective, but it has also proved very effective at stepping up and scoring short-handed goals. With Andrew Joudrey’s short-handed tally Friday night in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, the BEARS have now scored nine goals while a man down this season. The nine goals is tied for the second most in the AHL.
Former HERSHEY blueliner Danny Syvret scored the only goal for the Philadelphia Flyers Friday in the 2010 Winter Classic held at Fenway Park in Boston. Syvret, who has played against HERSHEY this season as a member of the Adirondack Phantoms, scored for the Flyers in a 2-1 Boston overtime win in front of more than 38,000 fans at Fenway.
Binghamton comes into Saturday action on the heels of a 3-2 overtime win at home on New Year’s Eve against the Norfolk Admirals. Ryan Keller and Tomas Kudelka are the only players to score more than one goal against the BEARS this season. Both have two goals in four games played against the Chocolate and White.
Saturday’s game can be heard via the BEARS Radio Network (100.1 FM and www.Sportsjuice.com) beginning at 6:40 p.m. John Walton, Ed Coffey and Jim Jones have the call from
Giant Center.
