BEARS WELCOME NORFOLK TO GIANT CENTER SATURDAY

December 4, 2009

HERSHEY returns home Saturday night to play the Norfolk Admirals at Giant Center, the third meeting of the season between the two clubs. Face-off is at 7:00 p.m. Mike Angelidis scored what proved to be the game-winning goal early in the second period as the Albany River Rats defeated the BEARS 3-1 Friday at Times Union Center in New York’s Capital District. Andrew Gordon scored his 12th goal of the season in the setback, with Jerome Samson and Pat Dwyer supplying the rest of the offense for the home team. HERSHEY will return to Albany next Friday to face the Rats again at Times Union Center. Former BEARS center Ryan Craig scored the game-winning goal in overtime Friday as Norfolk defeated Adirondack 2-1. The game was played at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia. Brandon Bochenski leads the team in goals (12) and points (21). Norfolk is coached by former BEARS defenseman Darren Rumble. After a 6-2 win over Florida Thursday night, Washington is in Philadelphia Saturday to play the Flyers. Philadelphia on Friday fired head coach John Stevens, replacing him with former AHL coach of the year and Stanley Cup champion Peter Laviolette. Laviolette will coach his first game for the Flyers against Bruce Boudreau, who coached his first game in the NHL just over two years ago at the Wachovia Center against John Stevens and the Flyers. There are 12 other games around the American Hockey League on Saturday, featuring the Hamilton Bulldogs and Toronto Marlies in the back half of a home-and-home series at Ricoh Coliseum. Albany plays at Adirondack Saturday, as well as Springfield at Bridgeport, Peoria at Grand Rapids, and Worcester at Manchester. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton returns to action Saturday at home against Hartford, Binghamton is at Syracuse, Texas plays in Chicago against the Wolves, and Lake Erie is in Rockford to play the IceHogs. Manitoba is in Milwaukee, and Rochester is out west in Abbotsford to play the Heat. Saturday’s game can be heard via the BEARS Radio Network (100.1 FM and www.Sportsjuice.com) beginning at 6:40 p.m. John Walton, Ed Coffey and Jim Jones have the call of the action.
