RATS! BEARS FALL IN ALBANY 3-1

December 4, 2009

The BEARS were edged out Friday night 3-1 in Albany by a determined River Rats team that claimed its 12th win of the season. The win for the Rats enabled Albany to close within five points of the first place Albany’s Jerome Samson opened the scoring with a power play marker at the 9:55 mark of the first period, staking the River Rats to a 1-0 lead after one period. HERSHEY put 12 shots on goal against Albany goaltender Justin Peters in the first period, while Michal Neuvirth faced nine shots in the first frame. The teams traded goals in the second period, with Mike Angelidis striking for the Rats at the 3:27 mark. Angelidis briefly gave the Rats a 2-0 lead, but Andrew Gordon quickly got the game back within a goal with his 12th goal of the year. Gordon’s tally came less than a minute later at the 4:08 mark, but neither team would score the rest of the frame. Pat Dwyer would score an empty-net goal with 5.2 seconds remaining to put the game on ice for the home team. BEARS Radio Network Three Stars of the game: 1. Justin Peters (Big win in goal for the Rats) 2. Andrew Gordon (Hershey’s only goal, many chances) 3. Mike Angelidis (Game-winning goal in second) Notes: HERSHEY scratched Patrick McNeill (illness) and Sean Collins (illness) Friday, as well as Brandon Sugden and Oskar Osala. The start for Neuvirth was his first in December after posting a 7-1-0 record during the month of November. The BEARS return home to face the Norfolk Admirals Saturday night. Face-off is at 7:00 p.m. at Giant Center Saturday, with tickets available at the box office or by calling (717) 534-3911. The BEARS will return to New York’s Capital District next Friday to face the River Rats at 7:00 p.m.
