BEARS WELCOME SPRINGFIELD TO TOWN SATURDAY

November 20, 2009

HERSHEY returns home on Saturday night, looking to extend a season-high five-game winning streak as the Springfield Falcons come to town. Face-off is at 7:00 p.m. The BEARS won for the third straight game in Binghamton Friday, defeating the Senators by a 5-2 final. Alexandre Giroux was named the game’s number one star, scoring a goal and assisting on two others. Of Giroux’s nine goals this season, five have come against his former team at Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena. Andrew Gordon, Boyd Kane and Kyle Wilson each scored single goals in the victory. Rookie Trevor Bruess scored his first AHL goal Friday against the Senators, converting a second period breakaway against Binghamton’s Mike Brodeur. The win was HERSHEY’S ninth win in its last 10 games, extending a winning streak to a season-high five straight games. Former BEARS captain and defenseman Dean Arsene, after over 400 minor league games, made his NHL debut with the Edmonton Oilers this past Monday in Columbus against the Blue Jackets. Arsene stayed in the lineup Wednesday night in his home debut for the Oilers, playing nearly 10 minutes in a 6-4 win against the Colorado Avalanche. He remains on recall as Edmonton plays host to the Chicago Blackhawks Saturday night at Rexall Place. Arsene, who played for the BEARS from 2003-2009, is the captain of this year’s Springfield Falcons. Springfield signed former BEARS forward Jason Morgan on Friday. The Falcons also have another former HERSHEY skater in Chad Wiseman, who is currently second on the team in scoring. Former Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguin Chris Minard has been sidelined since October 31 due to injury for Springfield. Around the AHL on Saturday, Manchester travels across the border to Lowell Saturday to face the Devils at Paul Tsongas Arena Saturday, while the Grand Rapids Griffins invade Toronto at 4:00 p.m. Norfolk is in Portland, Albany travels to Binghamton, Worcester takes on Providence at Dunkin Donuts Center, and Adirondack heads to northeast PA to face Wilkes-Barre/Scranton at 7:00 p.m. Elsewhere, Hartford is in Syracuse, Peoria plays at Chicago, Texas plays at Rockford, Hamilton is at Manitoba and Bridgeport takes on Abbotsford. Saturday’s game can be heard via the BEARS Radio Network (100.1 FM and www.Sportsjuice.com) beginning at 6:45 p.m. John Walton, Ed Coffey and Jim Jones have the call of the action from Giant Center.
