November 13, 2009

BEARS FIND FORTUNE ON FRIDAY THE 13TH Hershey Paces East Division with Win By Jess Mikula Ten different BEARS found the score sheet Friday night, as HERSHEY sank the Norfolk Admirals by a 5-3 margin. The visiting Admirals struck first, with an early even-strength marker from Blair Jones at 1:09. HERSHEY answered midway through the period. Karl Alzner fired a screamer off the boards, with Keith Aucoin picking up the rebound to put it past Norfolk netminder Dustin Tokarski for his seventh goal of the season at 9:06. Alexandre Giroux added the secondary assist. The score remained knotted at 1-1 after the first period. The Chocolate and White came out firing in the second period, finding the score sheet three times. Giroux broke into the Norfolk zone and fired a shot off Tokarski’s pads before potting the unassisted tally at 7:19, his eighth of the year. Oskar Osala netted his sixth of the 2009-2010 season, sending a wrister from Jay Beagle and Darren Reid top shelf on Tokarski at 9:53. Andrew Joudrey found the back of the net with his third goal of the year, a one timer at 17:36. Aucoin and Bryan Helmer recorded the assists. The BEARS carried a three-goal lead to the dressing room after 40 minutes of play. Complacency nearly cost HERSHEY its lead in the third period, as the Admirals rallied for two goals. Matt Syroczynski struck at 8:57, assisted by Chris Lawrence and Mitch Fritz. Juraj Simek beat BEARS backstop Michal Neuvirth top left corner to bring the Admirals within one goal at 13:50. As the game-tying goal trickled through Neuvirth’s leg pads, Patrick McNeill scooped the puck out of the crease to maintain the 4-3 lead. Steve Pinizzotto rounded out scoring for the BEARS with an empty netter at 19:59, his third goal of the season. Neuvirth recorded the lone assist. Michal Neuvirth earned his fifth win in net, turning aside 26 of 29 shots. The BEARS out-shot the Admirals 31-29 and denied Norfolk on both of its power play opportunities, as HERSHEY bettered its record to 11-5-0-0. Bears Radio Network Three Stars of the Game: 1.
