GIROUX AND AUCOIN RETURN TO HERSHEY

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: September 29, 2009 CONTACT: John Walton-HERSHEY BEARS â€" (717) 682-6470 CAPITALS ASSIGN ALEXANDRE GIROUX AND KEITH AUCOIN TO HERSHEY PAIR OF FORWARDS, WHO WERE 1-2 IN THE AHL IN SCORING LAST SEASON, CLEAR WAIVERS AND RETURN TO CHOCOLATETOWN, BEARS ASSIGN THREE WEDNESDAY HERSHEY â€" The 2009 Calder Cup Champion HERSHEY BEARS announced today in conjunction with the Washington Capitals that left wing Alexandre Giroux and center Keith Aucoin have been assigned out of NHL camp to HERSHEY. The club also announced today the assignment of three players to South Carolina (ECHL). The announcements were made today by BEARS President/GM Doug Yingst. Giroux and Aucoin last season became the first HERSHEY duo since 1969 to finish 1-2 in the American Hockey League in scoring. Giroux scored a franchise record 60 goals on his way to his first AHL scoring title in 2008-09, and then topped that off by scoring a team record 15 postseason goals during the 2009 Calder Cup playoffs. Aucoin scored the final goal of Game 6 at Manitoba to effectively clinch the Calder Cup for the BEARS this past June. Between the two players, the Chocolate and White will return 193 points of offense from last year’s club with today’s transactions. HERSHEY also announced today that defenseman Dylan Yeo, along with forwards Jake Hauswirth and Michael Dubuc, has been assigned to South Carolina (ECHL). The BEARS will officially open its defense of the Calder Cup this Saturday, October 3, hosting the Norfolk Admirals at GIANT Center in the 2009-10 regular season opener. Face-off is at 7:00 p.m., with pregame ceremonies honoring last year’s Calder Cup champions beginning at 6:30 p.m.
