BEARS LOOK TO CLAIM CALDER CUP FRIDAY IN GAME 6

June 12, 2009

After dropping a narrow 3-2 decision in Game 5 of the Calder Cup Finals on Tuesday, the BEARS will try again to win its 10th Calder Cup in franchise history Friday. Game 6 of the best-of-seven American Hockey League championship series will be at MTS Centre in downtown Winnipeg at 8:30 p.m. eastern time Friday, with HERSHEY leading the series three games to two. HERSHEY had a chance on Tuesday to win a Calder Cup at home for the first time in 29 years, but fell behind 2-0 late in the second period to Manitoba. The Moose watched Graham Mink score early in the third, and rookie defenseman John Carlson would score late after Manitoba scored an empty net goal to round out the scoring. The 3-2 loss set the stage for HERSHEY to win on the road either in Game 6 or Game 7. Tuesday’s game at GIANT Center was the final game along HERSHEYPARK Drive this season. The BEARS chase the opportunity to win its 10th Calder Cup title, which would establish a new AHL mark for most Calder Cups won by a single franchise. HERSHEY is currently tied with the defunct Cleveland Barons at nine championships apiece. For fans in central Pennsylvania, GIANT Center will carry the game live on the center video board, providing the opportunity to see the game at HERSHEY’S home rink and watch with fellow BEARS fans. Admission to GIANT Center Friday is free, with doors opening at 7:30 p.m. Concession and merchandise stands will be open for the event. The call of the game will be heard in the bowl in addition to the video on the screen. Friday’s Game 6 can be heard via the BEARS Radio Network (100.1 FM, 1490 AM, Sportsjuice.com, AHLLive.com) beginning with the pregame show at 8:10 p.m. The game is also being televised in central Pennsylvania by WHTM-TV on ABC-27’s digital channel. Comcast channel 246, Verizon Fios channel 461 and ABC-27.2 will all carry the game live from Winnipeg. John Walton will provide play-by-play for both television and radio Friday, with Jim Jones will serve as sideline reporter at ice level at MTS Centre. ABC-27 Sports Director Gregg Mace and BEARS Radio Network analyst Ed Coffey will anchor coverage live from GIANT Center throughout the broadcast.
