BEARS BACK AT HOME NEEDING A GAME 6 WIN SUNDAY

May 9, 2009

HERSHEY will try and fight off the ropes Sunday in Game 6 of the East Division Finals Sunday afternoon, trailing the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins three games to two in the 2009 East Division Finals. The game marks the first time this playoff year that the BEARS have faced elimination. The BEARS fell for a third straight game at Wachovia Arena Saturday night, dropping Game 5 of the series by a 4-1 final. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton scored three power play goals, two of which were picked up in the first period. Darren Reid, who had not played in a 2009 Calder Cup playoff game prior to Saturday night, scored the only marker of the night for the Chocolate and White. Goaltender Michal Neuvirth, who has now dropped three straight decisions after winning six straight, made 26 saves in the setback. Home ice has meant everything in this best-of-seven East Division Final. HERSHEY won the first two games of the series here at GIANT Center last weekend to go up 2-0. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton then prevailed in Games 3, 4 and 5 at Wachovia Arena in northeast PA. Should a Game 7 be needed in this series, it would be played here along HERSHEYPARK Drive Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. Elsewhere in the Calder Cup playoffs, the Worcester Sharks evened its Atlantic Division Final with the Providence Bruins at two games apiece Saturday night with a 1-0 win at the DCU Center in downtown Worcester. Game 5 is back in Providence on Monday night, with Game 6 set for Wednesday in Massachusetts. The winner of the Worcester/Providence series will face the winner of the HERSHEY/Wilkes-Barre/Scranton East Division Final in the 2009 Eastern Conference Finals. Sunday’s Game 6 can be heard via the BEARS Radio Network (100.1 FM, 1490 AM, Sportsjuice.com, AHLLive.com) beginning with the pregame show at 4:40 p.m. John Walton and Ed Coffey have the call of the action from GIANT Center. Tickets for Sunday’s Game 6 between the BEARS and Penguins are on sale at the GIANT Center box office. Call (717) 534-3911 for ticket availability and information.
