BEARS AND TIGERS TO CLASH FRIDAY NIGHT

January 16, 2009

It’s one versus two in the East Division Friday night as the BEARS pay a visit to the Arena at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport, taking on the Sound Tigers at 7:00 p.m. HERSHEY opens play Friday with a five-point lead in the East, but the Sound Tigers also possess two games in hand on the front-running BEARS. Following a 7-2 loss to Albany Wednesday night, HERSHEY has dropped three games in a row for the first time all season. Friday’s game against Bridgeport is the third of six meetings between the BEARS and the Sound Tigers, with HERSHEY dropping a 4-1 decision in Connecticut back on November 9. The BEARS defeated the Sound Tigers 4-1 at GIANT Center on November 22. Alexandre Giroux continues to chase Brett Hull and the American Hockey League’s all-time record for goals in consecutive games. Giroux has scored in 12 straight games for HERSHEY, two behind Hull’s record of 14 straight set back in 1987. Around the East Division Friday, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton travels to Binghamton to take on the Senators at Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena. Face-off is at 7:05 p.m. Lowell is in Philadelphia tonight at 7:05 p.m., with Daniel Briere playing the second game of a conditioning stint for the Phantoms. Worcester is in Norfolk to face the Admirals in Hampton Roads Friday, and Albany is in Syracuse to face the Crunch at 7:30 p.m. Friday’s game can be heard via the BEARS Radio Network (100.1 FM, 1490 AM, Sportsjuice.com, AHLLive.com) beginning with the pregame show at 6:40 p.m. John Walton has the call of the action from southern Connecticut. The BEARS return to GIANT Center this weekend to face Philadelphia and Worcester. Tickets are still available for both Saturday and Sunday’s game by calling or visiting the GIANT Center box office at (717) 534-3911. Worcester’s lineup features four-time Stanley Cup champion Claude Lemieux on its roster. The Sharks will be in town on Sunday afternoon.
