PENGUINS POUNCE ON BEARS SUNDAY 6-2
01/11/2009 - BEARS FALL 6-2 IN NORTHEAST PA SUNDAY By: John Walton A good start at Wachovia Arena unraveled in the back half of the game as Wilkes-Barre/Scranton routed the BEARS 6-2. Alexandre Giroux extended his goal scoring streak to an American Hockey League best 11 games in a row in the first period. Giroux scored on a five-on-three power play at 4:36 with a one-timer past Penguin goaltender John Curry. Chris Bourque extended his assist streak to nine straight games on the goal as well, and the BEARS led the game 1-0. After the Penguins tied the game at one with a goal from Bill Thomas at 7:49, Kip Brennan would give HERSHEY another one-goal advantage. Brennan's goal at 14:35 from the top of the crease from Andrew Joudrey gave the BEARS a 2-1 lead at first intermission. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton would turn the tide in the second period, scoring three times and never looking back. Nick Johnson scored a pair of goals in the second for the Pens, and Janne Pesonen picked up a goal at 19:59 on a power play. Danny Richmond and J.M. Daoust added third period goals as the Penguins scored five unanswered to win the game going away. The loss was the second straight for HERSHEY heading into a home game Wednesday night with Albany. Notes: It's back to GIANT Center Wednesday as the BEARS host the Albany River Rats at 7:00 p.m., the beginning of another four games in five nights stretch for the Chocolate and White. HERSHEY will head to Bridgeport Friday night before hosting Philadelphia and Worcester next weekend.
