Capitals Recall Chris Bourque from Hershey, Assign Simeon Varlamov
ARLINGTON, Va. â" The Washington Capitals have recalled forward Chris Bourque from the
Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL) and assigned goaltender Simeon Varlamov to Hershey, vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today.
Bourque, 22, has played in 27 games for Hershey this year. He has eight goals, is second on the team with 20 assists and has a +8 rating. Bourque tallied a goal and an assist last night in Hersheyâ™s 5-3 win against Albany.
Bourque, who was the Capitalsâ™ second-round choice, 33rd overall, in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, accumulated 28 goals and 35 assists (63 points) in 73 games with Hershey last season. He is in his fourth year with Hershey and was a member of the 2005-06 team that won the Calder Cup under current Capitals coach Bruce Boudreau.
The 5â™10â, 177-pound Boston, Mass., native, has played in eight career NHL games â" four this year and four last year â" for the Capitals.
