BEARS EDGE PHANTOMS 3-2 IN PHILLY FRIDAY

November 14, 2008

BOURQUE, MINK LEAD BEARS TO ONE GOAL WIN By: John Walton HERSHEY finished up a five-game road trip on a winning note Friday night, defeating the Philadelphia Phantoms 3-2 at the Wachovia Spectrum. Francois Bouchard got the BEARS off to a good start, scoring his fourth goal of the season just 2:04 into the game. Mathieu Perreault assisted on the marker to give HERSHEY a 1-0 lead. Philadelphia would tie the game midway through the first when former BEARS captain scored his sixth goal of the season at 11:15. Not only was it Kane’s sixth goal, but it also was his fifth this season against the BEARS. HERSHEY fired 12 shots in the first period to Philadelphia’s eight. The BEARS would score twice in the second period, but the Phantoms notched a short-handed goal to keep the game close. Graham Mink picked up his seventh goal of the season off a Chris Bourque rebound at 7:36 to lift HERSHEY to a 2-1 lead. A short time later at 10:42, Bourque would score one of his own to put the BEARS in front 3-1. Despite firing 17 shots to Philadelphia’s nine in the period, HERSHEY allowed the Phantoms to again creep within one when Jonathan Kalinski scored a short-handed goal at 12:41 on goaltender Simeon Varlamov. While the BEARS dictated most of the play in the second period, they held a narrow one-goal advantage heading to the third. Neither team would score in the last frame, and HERSHEY left Philadelphia two points better in the standings. Varlamov won his fourth game of the season, while Phantoms backstop Scott Munroe lost just his second game in seven decisionS.
